At&t cell phone carrier in the U.S. with T-Mobile ranking as the 3rd worst. What does this mean for the consumer? AT&T is seeing an increase, but how much of the increase is related to cell phone service versus the other business segments?

Wireless is their biggest revenue segment, land-line segment has been declining year after year. Along with acquiring customers, at&t also gains cell towers, and the ability to roll out 4g faster. Investment and revenue are heavily concentrated in the wireless market, they have U-Verse to expand upon, but building the infrastructure for it is expensive.

The U.S. Department of Justice wants to roadblock AT&T's (T) merger with T-Mobile. But does that mean the deal is off? The DOJ's lawsuit is the first test of the Obama administration's new merger guidelines that a merger will be evaluated not only on how much it shifts market share, but also by its impact on rivals. The proposed T-Mobile deal would increase AT&T's share of the wireless market from 32% to 43%, and reduce the number of nationwide carriers from four to three. Is that a huge change? It's debatable. But T-Mobile is the last remaining national, low-cost carrier. Eliminating T-Mobile from the market would likely have a major impact on wireless prices for all consumers. If the merger is not approved, the company needs to pay a reverse termination fee of $3 billion to T-Mobile. What do you think about this?

Thanks, hopefully they buy T-Mobile. If i begin to see the share price going down, I'll probably sell it.

All that stuff about AT&T iPhone customers itching to switch to Verizon? If it's true, it hasn't happened yet. Verizon (VZ) said it activated 2.3 million iPhones in the second quarter, far fewer than the 3.6 million AT&T (T) activated over the same three-month period. AT&T activated exactly as many iPhones as it did in the previous three months. But that was up 11% from a year ago???analysts had expected that many AT&T subscribers would hold off on purchasing iPhones until Apple (AAPL) unveiled a new version, which is widely rumored for Sept. Of course, the battle between the two leading wireless networks isn't only about the iPhone. And in all other areas, Verizon stood strong. Verizon Wireless, which is half-owned by Verizon and half-owned by European wireless giant Vodafone (VOD), said it added 1.3 million customers under contract during the quarter. By contrast, AT&T added just 331,000.

Verizon Wireless (VZ) will join competitors AT&T (T) and T-Mobile in eliminating the option for customers to consume unlimited data on their mobile phones without paying additional fees. Verizon said more details would be coming soon, including pricing information. Customers currently under contract won't be affected by the changes, but new and renewing customers will likely have to accept the new, tiered plans. After Verizon switches to a tiered model, Sprint (S) will be the only major U.S. carrier to provide its customers with unlimited smartphone data. Currently, AT&T customers pay $15 a month for 200 megabytes of data, or $25 for 2 gigabytes plus an additional $10 for each gigabyte of monthly data usage that exceeds the allotted 2 GB limit, while T-Mobile offers 2 GB of data for $10 a month, 5 GB for $20 and 10 GB for $50. Verizon currently offers an unlimited data plan for $30 a month. Should it stay the same?
