Northrop Grumman Corp (NOC)

Carlos posted some buzz about Northrop Grumman Corp - almost 2 years ago

by Carlos Portocarrero, WeSeed Writer Remember the story about Boeing's (BA) complaint that the Air Force's $35 billion tanker deal wasn't really on the up and up? Well, Boeing got what they wanted yesterday when the Government Accountability Office ("GAO") said that the bidding process was rife with irregularities. Get this: according to the GAO, the Air Force didn't even follow their own guidelines. That means Northrop Grumman (NOC) and its European partner EADS, the original winners of the bid, are probably back to square one. It also means that the expected profits of all three companies may change drastically. At the time, a lot of people were upset with the Air Force for awarding part of the contract to a foreign company (EADS), but business is business, right? Boeing's argument had nothing to do with who they lost the bid to, it was all about how they lost it. They claimed the Air Force's process wasn't right. Believe it or not, this already happened years ago, only it was Boeing who had to give back the bid. To top things off, word has it that this ping-pong contract could eventually climb to $100 billion. Politicians are calling for the contract to be given outright to Boeing, which very well could happen. The news sent Boeing's stock up over 2% - it looks like Wall Street thinks Boeing has a good shot at the contract now and the potential $100 billion behind it. But does this decision make you confident enough to invest in Boeing? As for EADS and Northrop, this decision clips their wings a just a bit. Taking away a potential $100 billion deal tends to do that. Contracts being awarded and revoked, a presidential nominee (McCain) getting involved - there's a lot going on here. Our Fair Price Tool has both companies in the red, but do they have enough going on outside this "deal" for investors to ignore all the controversy and fill up on their stock?
