ABC (DIS) is moving forward with its adaptation of Scruples, a 1978 best-selling novel by Judith Krantz. The one-hour drama, which counts her son Tony Krantz as an executive producer with Natalie Portman, who will also serve as an executive producer on the project. This is the actress??? first attempt at producing a series. The series is described as an on-brand sexy soap set in the late 1970s. It centers on a socialite who, following the death of her husband, seeks to open a fashion forward boutique called Scruples in the heart of Beverly Hills. What do you thnk? The ABC (DIS) game show's longtime host Pat Sajak, who's been with the show since 1981, would sometimes head out for drinks with Vanna White while on a break from taping. There were long breaks during taping and rather than just hang around, Sajak and White would head over to a spot called Los Arcos in Burbank, where they served margaritas. So has anyone ever spotted a suspiciously giggly or slurring Sajak in any old Wheel of Fortune?

But since ratings aren't as strong as they used to be--the show's averaging a 1.1 rating among adults women 18-49, down 21 percent from last year--and given how Katie Couric's syndicated talk show is coming to ABC stations this fall, it's still possible that the good people of Port Charles may lose their home in daytime. But it could have a future in primetime: EW has confirmed that ABC entertainment chief Paul Lee is pondering one scenario that would allow the soap to air as an evening summer series. For the first time in more than a decade, Paramount Pictures (VIA) is ending the year as the box office champion. The strong showing of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, which took in $46.2 million over the Christmas holiday pushed Paramount???s receipts over the top to $1.86 billion for the year (as of Dec. 25). That put it ahead of the usual winner, Warner Bros (TWX), whose total for the year reached $1.76 billion. Sony (SNE) finished in third place with $1.3 billion, just ahead of Disney (DIS) with $1.2 billion. The highest-grossing movie of the year was Warner Bros.??? Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2, which earned $381 million domestically.
